An anniversary yacht charter in Marbella is the most low-friction way to mark a milestone date without organising a party. You board at Puerto Banús, the skipper handles everything, and within ten minutes you are anchored somewhere quiet with cava poured and the Sierra Blanca behind you. From €749 for a 2-hour Tier A slot, it costs less than a private dinner for eight at most Golden Mile restaurants — and the photos are better. Start with our main fleet overview if you want to compare boats side by side.
Why an anniversary on the water beats a restaurant booking
The maths is simple. A 2-hour sunset charter on the Astondoa 40 or Azimut 39 runs €749 all-in for up to 9-11 guests — that is roughly €75 per person with drinks, snacks and a skipper. A comparable dinner for two at a Puerto Banús waterfront restaurant lands around €180 before wine, and you share the room with thirty other tables. On the boat, the deck is yours. The sea state in Marbella averages under 0.8m in summer, the wind drops at sunset, and the golden hour gives you 40 minutes of warm light that no terrace can match.
The other thing restaurants cannot do: stop. The skipper will cut the engine wherever you like — Río Verde bay, off the Marbella Marina breakwater, or a mile east toward Cala del Faro — and you sit on flat water with no service interruptions, no neighbouring tables, no waiter timing.
The three best sunset routes from Puerto Banús
All three depart from Puerto Banús and fit inside a 2-hour slot. Pick by the vibe you want.
1. The Golden Mile loop (most popular)
Head east along the Golden Mile at 8-10 knots, past Marbella Club and the Puente Romano beach clubs, anchor off Río Verde for 30-40 minutes, then return for sunset with La Concha behind you. Total distance: 4NM. Best for couples who want the classic Marbella skyline shot.
2. The Estepona run (quieter)
West toward Estepona, hugging the coast past the Aloha and Guadalmina beaches. Fewer boats, calmer water in the lee of Punta de la Plata, and the sun sets directly over Gibraltar in winter. Total distance: 6NM round trip — fits a 2h slot at cruise speed.
3. The Cabopino sunset (for longer charters)
Only viable on 4-hour or longer bookings. Run east past Marbella to the dune coast at Cabopino, anchor for a swim, then return at sunset. Total distance: 14NM. Pair this with the Azimut 58 Flybridge or larger — you want the speed.
Which boat for which kind of anniversary
| Anniversary type | Recommended boat | From |
|---|---|---|
| Just the two of you | Dubhe (8m, 5 pax) or Mariah SX21 | On request |
| Couple + close friends (up to 9) | Astondoa 40 or Azimut 39 | €749/2h |
| Family milestone (up to 12) | Pershing 46 or Fairline Targa 12m | On request |
| 25th, 40th, 50th — going big | Mangusta 80, Ferretti 94, Canados 86 | €4,719/4h |
| Vow renewal at anchor | Lagoon 380 catamaran (stable platform) | On request |
The catamaran option deserves a note: the Lagoon 380 is the only multihull in our fleet and the stability at anchor is unmatched — useful if you are exchanging vows or hosting older guests who do not love a rolling deck. For raw celebration scale, the Mangusta 80 at €4,719/4h includes a free jet ski, which has become a standard 40th-birthday-anniversary combination.
Sunset timings month by month
Marbella sits at 36.5°N, so the sunset window shifts dramatically across the year. Book your 2-hour slot to end at sunset, not start at it — you want the golden hour on the return leg.
- March: sunset 19:25 → board 17:25
- April: sunset 21:10 → board 19:10
- May: sunset 21:35 → board 19:35
- June: sunset 21:55 → board 19:55
- July: sunset 21:50 → board 19:50
- August: sunset 21:20 → board 19:20
- September: sunset 20:30 → board 18:30
- October: sunset 19:25 → board 17:25
Sea temperature peaks at 23°C in August and drops to 16°C by January. For an anchored swim, May through October is comfortable; November through April, plan for cava on deck rather than a dip.
The proposal logistics (if that is the plan)
About one in eight of our anniversary bookings turns out to be a proposal. The crew know the drill: tell the skipper at booking, agree a signal (a specific song cue or a hand gesture), and we will kill the engine, lower the music, and disappear to the wheelhouse. The aft deck of the Astondoa 40 or Azimut 39 has space for a ring, a phone on a small tripod for video, and a chilled bottle ready in the cooler. Río Verde bay is the most-used anchorage for this — sheltered, no swell, and the Sierra Blanca makes a clean backdrop.
Bring the ring in a zip pocket, not loose. Anchoring is calm but the dinghy transfer to swim is where rings get lost.
What is included — and what to bring
Every charter includes the licensed skipper, fuel, water, soft drinks, beer, white wine, cava, light snacks (olives, crisps, charcuterie board), insurance, safety equipment and 21% Spanish IVA. There are no fuel surcharges and no mooring fees at the anchorages we use.
What to bring for an anniversary specifically: a bottle of something personal (champagne, a vintage you shared, the wine from your wedding), a small bluetooth speaker if you want a specific playlist beyond the boat's system, a card or letter for the at-anchor moment, and a phone or proper camera for sunset photos. Skip the flowers unless they are in a weighted vase — wind on the aft deck will scatter petals.
How to book
Message us on WhatsApp with your date, guest count, and whether it is a milestone or a proposal. We hold the slot for 24 hours while you confirm with your partner (or finalise the surprise). Payment is 50% deposit to lock the date, 50% on the day. For peak summer Saturdays — especially around 14 February, anniversaries clustering in May/June, and the September milestone season — book at least 3 weeks ahead. Shoulder season (March, October, November) you can usually book 48 hours out.

Frequently asked questions
What is the best time of day for an anniversary yacht charter in Marbella?
Book a 2-hour slot that ends at sunset. In summer that means boarding around 19:30 for a 21:55 sundown; in shoulder season aim for 17:30 boarding. The golden hour begins about 40 minutes before sunset and gives you flat light for photos, a calmer sea, and the cooler deck temperatures couples actually want for cava and a toast.
Which boat suits a couples-only anniversary?
For two people, the Dubhe (8m, up to 5 pax) or Mariah SX21 (6.4m, 5 pax) are the right scale — small enough to feel private, big enough for a comfortable sunbed and cooler. If you want headroom for a cabin moment, step up to the Astondoa 40 or Azimut 39 from €749/2h, both with proper interior saloons and a sheltered aft deck.
How much does an anniversary yacht charter in Marbella cost?
Tier A boats (Astondoa 40, Azimut 39) start at €749 for 2 hours and €2,299 for a full 8-hour day, with skipper, fuel, drinks and 21% VAT included. The Mangusta 80 begins at €4,719 for a 4-hour minimum and includes a free jet ski. Other fleet boats are priced on request via WhatsApp — message us with your date and guest count.
Can we anchor somewhere private for dinner or a proposal?
Yes. The skipper will drop anchor in Río Verde bay (1.2NM east of Puerto Banús), off Cala del Faro, or further toward Cabopino if you want fewer boats around. These spots are sheltered from the prevailing westerly and shallow enough (4-8m) for swimming. Tell us at booking if it's a proposal — we'll keep the engine off and the music low at the moment.
What is included on board for the celebration?
Every charter includes a licensed skipper, fuel, water, soft drinks, beer, white wine, cava, light snacks, insurance, safety equipment and Spanish IVA. You can bring your own bottle if you want a specific vintage, plus a cake, flowers or decorations — the crew will help set up the aft table before you board.
What if the weather turns on our anniversary date?
Marbella sees fewer than 40 rain days a year and the Costa del Sol averages 320 sunny days, but if the skipper deems sea state unsafe (wind above 20kts or swell over 1.5m) we reschedule at no charge or refund in full. Borderline days we'll usually swap the route — staying west toward Estepona keeps you in the lee of the coast.
Can we do an overnight or sleep-aboard anniversary?
Our charters are day-use only and finish back at Puerto Banús before midnight. For a milestone anniversary we recommend the 8-hour day charter (€2,299 on Tier A) followed by dinner ashore at one of the Puerto Banús restaurants. Most couples find that 4-6 hours afloat at sunset is the sweet spot — long enough to swim, eat and toast without losing the evening.
