No License Required – Here's Why
Spanish maritime law requires any vessel over 6 metres in length to be operated by a person holding a valid navigation license. However, when you charter a boat with a skipper, the responsibility – and the license – rests with the professional captain. You are simply a passenger. This applies to every boat in our fleet, from the compact Dubhe (8m, 5 pax) to the superyacht Ferretti 94 (29m, 12 pax).
All our skippers hold a Spanish Patrón de Yate or Capitán de Yate qualification, which is internationally recognised and covers navigation, safety, and first aid. They are also insured and experienced on the local waters from Marbella to Estepona and Sotogrande.

What About Renting a Boat Without a Skipper?
Bareboat charters (without a skipper) are possible in Spain if you hold a valid Patrón de Embarcaciones de Recreo (PER) license or an equivalent international certificate. However, Boat Rental Marbella only offers skippered charters. This means you never need to worry about navigation, docking, or safety checks – just enjoy the Mediterranean.
If you have a license and want to drive, we recommend contacting a bareboat operator separately. For 99% of visitors, the skippered option is far more relaxing.
What to Bring on the Day

Yes, you can bring extra drinks, but we already include water, soft drinks, beer, white wine, and cava. The skipper cannot consume alcohol while on duty.
How far in advance should I book?
