Packing for a Marbella yacht charter what to bring checklist can make the difference between a relaxed day on the water and a sunburnt, thirsty scramble. With 300+ days of sunshine a year, Marbella’s coast is ideal for boating from May to October. This 2026 guide covers everything you need – and a few things you can leave behind – for a smooth charter from Puerto Banús.

1. Sun Protection: The Non-Negotiables

The Mediterranean sun reflects off the sea, doubling UV exposure. Bring reef-safe, water-resistant SPF 50+ sunscreen (at least 200ml per person). Apply 20 minutes before boarding and reapply every two hours. A wide-brimmed hat, polarised sunglasses, and a light long-sleeved shirt or rash guard add extra protection. Lip balm with SPF is a small but smart addition.

2. Swimwear and Towels

Every charter includes swimming stops at spots like Cala del Faro or Cala Cortés. Pack at least two swimsuits so you have a dry one after the first dip. A quick-dry microfiber towel takes up less space than a cotton one – important on smaller yachts like the Dubhe (8m, 5 pax). If you’re on a larger vessel like the Azimut 58 Flybridge, storage is more generous, but a compact towel is still wise.

3. Documents and Payment

Bring a valid passport or national ID card for every passenger. The skipper may need to verify identities before departure, especially for international groups. No boating licence is required – our licensed skipper handles the vessel. Carry a debit/credit card or cash for optional extras: jet ski hire, water toys, or a tip for the crew (10–15% of the charter fee is customary).

4. Clothing and Layers

Marbella’s summer air temperature hits 30–35°C, but sea breezes can drop the perceived temperature by 5–10°C. Pack a light windbreaker or fleece for the return trip in the late afternoon. Barefoot or soft-soled deck shoes are best – leave high heels and dark-soled shoes ashore. A sarong or cover-up is useful for lunch stops at beach clubs along the Golden Mile.

5. What We Already Provide

Every charter includes a licensed skipper, fuel, insurance, and 21% IVA. We also supply water, soft drinks, beer, cava, white wine, and light snacks. For Tier A boats (Astondoa 40 and Azimut 39), this is included in the €749/2h to €2,299/8h price. So you don’t need to bring your own drinks – just your appetite for the sea.

6. Optional Extras to Consider

If you want a fuller experience, consider adding a jet ski (free on the Mangusta 80), snorkel gear, or a paddleboard. These are available on request – contact us via WhatsApp for pricing. For a private chef or premium catering, let us know 48 hours in advance. Cash is handy for these add-ons, though cards are accepted at the office.

7. What to Leave at Home

Yacht storage is limited, especially on smaller boats like the Mariah SX21 (6.4m, 5 pax). Leave large suitcases, unnecessary valuables, and glass bottles (use plastic or cans instead). Avoid bringing illegal substances or weapons – skippers will refuse boarding. Also leave high heels, dark-soled shoes, and heavy jewellery to protect the deck and upholstery.

8. Final Pre-Departure Checks

Check the weather forecast – our team monitors conditions, but it’s good to know if a light jacket is needed. Arrive 15 minutes early at Puerto Banús (our main departure point). Fill a reusable water bottle (we provide water, but extra hydration is smart). And finally, charge your phone or camera – you’ll want photos of La Concha mountain from the sea.

Frequently asked questions

What documents do I need for a Marbella yacht charter?

Bring a valid passport or national ID card for every passenger. The skipper may request identification before departure, especially for international groups. No boating licence is required – our licensed skipper handles the vessel.

Can I bring my own food and drink on board?

You are welcome to bring extra food or drink, though we already supply soft drinks, water, beer, cava, white wine, and light snacks. If you have specific dietary needs or prefer premium beverages, feel free to bring them.

What sunscreen should I use for a yacht charter in Marbella?

Use reef-safe, water-resistant sunscreen with SPF 50+. Apply 20 minutes before boarding and reapply every two hours. The Andalusian sun is strong from May to October, and reflection off the sea increases UV exposure.

What shoes should I wear on a yacht?

Barefoot or soft-soled deck shoes are best. Avoid high heels, stilettos, or dark-soled shoes that can mark the deck. Many yachts require shoes off at the boarding gate – a pair of flip-flops works well.

Do I need a towel for the yacht charter?

Yes, bring a beach towel for swimming stops and sunbathing. We do not supply towels on standard charters. A lightweight, quick-dry towel is ideal for the limited storage space on smaller boats like the Dubhe or Mariah SX21.

What extras are not included that I should bring cash for?

Extras like jet ski hire, water toys, or a larger food menu are available at an additional cost. Bring cash or a card for these. The Mangusta 80 (€4,719/4h) includes a jet ski free – check your booking details.

Can I bring a Bluetooth speaker?

Most of our yachts have onboard sound systems, but you are welcome to bring a portable Bluetooth speaker. Be mindful of volume levels out of respect for other boaters and the skipper’s instructions.

What should I leave at home?

Leave unnecessary valuables, large suitcases, and glass bottles (use plastic or cans instead). Yacht storage is limited, especially on smaller vessels. Also avoid bringing illegal substances or weapons – skippers will refuse boarding.
