Marbella's waters are a prime destination for big game tuna fishing. The Alboran Sea, just off the Costa del Sol, hosts bluefin tuna runs from June to October, with fish often exceeding 50 kg. Our private charters depart from Puerto Banús and include a licensed skipper, all fishing gear, bait, drinks, and snacks. Whether you're an experienced angler or a first-timer, our boats offer a comfortable, professional platform for a day on the water.
Why Marbella for Big Game Tuna Fishing?
The Mediterranean's bluefin tuna migrate through the Strait of Gibraltar into the Alboran Sea, making Marbella a strategic launch point. Water temperatures in summer reach 24–26°C, and the continental shelf drops quickly, bringing tuna within 5–10 nautical miles of the coast. The season peaks from July to September, when catches of 60–100 kg are common. Local skippers know the hotspots near Cabopino, Cala del Faro, and Estepona.

Typical Day on the Water
Your charter starts at Puerto Banús marina. After a safety briefing, the skipper heads out to the fishing grounds, usually 5–15 nautical miles offshore. Trolling with live bait or lures is the standard technique. The skipper will rig the lines and coach you on fighting the fish. Catches are cleaned and packed on request. You can also swim or relax between action. Most charters last 4–8 hours, but shorter 2-hour trips are available for a taste of the sport.
Season & Conditions
Bluefin tuna season runs June–October. Peak months are July, August, and September. Early morning departures (7–8 AM) often yield the best action. Sea conditions are generally calm in summer, with swells under 1 m. If the wind picks up, the skipper may adjust the route or reschedule. We recommend booking in advance during peak season as demand is high.
