The most-asked question we get from couples: "Can you help me propose on the boat?" Yes. We've done it a hundred times — and the skipper-coordinated script below is the playbook that actually works (vs the panicked-bag-of-Ring-Boxes approach). 2-hour sunset cruise, anchor stop at Río Verde, cava ready, ring hidden until the moment. €749 + a few small extras.

How the skipper-coordinated proposal works
You enquire by WhatsApp, we set up a quick voice call (skipper-to-proposer, 5 min) to coordinate:
- What does the partner know? Surprise sunset cruise, or surprise proposal-on-the-cruise? Affects how the day unfolds.
- The ring. Bring it onboard hidden however you want — we'll secure it in the galley fridge / saloon drawer / skipper-pocket. Don't have it visible in carry-on at boarding.
- The moment. Default: anchor at Río Verde with La Concha behind, just before the sun touches the horizon. Cava poured. You step to the bow. We discreetly disappear.
- The signal. You tell us the signal before — usually "when I move to the bow, bring the cava and step back". The skipper has the discretion of someone who has done this a hundred times.
- The aftermath. Champagne pop. Photo set the skipper takes from the helm (your phone, or your photographer's phone if you've hired one). Cruise back to Puerto Banús with the music on.
The 2-hour proposal cruise — hour by hour
- T-75 min before sunset — Boarding at Puerto Banús. Welcome drink at the dock (chilled cava). Skipper briefs you both on safety, you brief skipper privately on the signal.
- T-60 min — Cast off. Slow cruise west past Marbella Club and Puente Romano. The Golden Mile mansions are the warm-up.
- T-30 min — Anchor at Río Verde. Calm water. La Concha behind. Music down low. Skipper hands you both a glass.
- T-15 min — You step to the bow. Or wait for the signal you'd agreed. Skipper gets out of the frame.
- T-0 — The moment. Cava pop. The skipper takes the photo from the helm (with your camera or partner's).
- T+15 min — Cruise return at displacement speed. Sunset light, music on, you've got 30 minutes to call your families.
- T+45 min — Back at Puerto Banús. Photo on the dock. Dinner reservation we held for you at Casanis or La Sala.
Add-ons couples ask for
- Photographer on board — €200/h, captures the moment from the helm (you don't notice them; skipper signals them).
- Videographer / reel — €300/h, edit delivered 48 h later.
- Flowers on the bow — €60-€120, white roses or your choice. Pre-set before boarding.
- Custom cava bottle — your label, "Will you marry me?" engraving. Local Marbella shop, we coordinate. €120.
- Restaurant booking ashore — we hold a 2-top reservation at Casanis, La Sala, Sea Grill or Skina (your choice). Confirms after the yes.
- Acoustic musician on board — Spanish guitar at sunset. €400.
The classic Río Verde sunset shot
The proposal photo every couple wants is: you (proposing) on the bow at the centre, partner looking back at you, La Concha mountain behind, sun touching the horizon to camera-right, water reflecting orange. The skipper knows the angle. We anchor with the boat oriented for it. If you've hired a photographer, they get the wide and the close, plus the candid afterwards. If not, the skipper takes a few from the helm — they're not Annie Leibovitz but they're solid.
Best months for a proposal
May, June, September are the sweet spot — sunset 20:30–21:00, water 19-22 °C, levante winds gentler than peak summer. July–August works but sunset is later (21:30+) and the Río Verde anchorage is busier. October sunsets are early (19:45) but the light is the warmest. Winter proposals happen but it's cold for outdoor cava.
What we don't do
- Pre-printed signs that ruin the spontaneity (unless you specifically request).
- Drones flying over the boat at the moment (Spanish law restricts this; also kills the privacy).
- Fake "engine breakdown" so you have to step on deck (it's been pitched; we don't).
- Tell the partner anything before — we hold every secret.
Pricing
Base: €749 for the 2-hour sunset cruise. Add photographer (€200), custom flowers (€80), restaurant booking (free coordination, you pay at the restaurant). Most proposal couples spend around €900-€1,200 all-in including dinner ashore.
Booking
Tap Book now top-right with the date, the partner's name (so we don't accidentally call them by the wrong name when greeting), and your signal preference. We respond within 5 minutes on WhatsApp. Then a 5-minute call to coordinate. Then we disappear until you message us with "she said yes" so we can pop the second bottle.
Frequently asked questions
What if the partner figures it out before the moment?
Happens about 20% of the time, especially if they notice flowers or extra cava. Doesn't ruin the moment — usually makes it warmer. We don't overplay the "act surprised" angle; you're both adults.
Can the skipper hide the ring?
Yes — we routinely hold the ring in a galley drawer or the skipper's pocket. Hand it over at boarding privately. The skipper hands it back at your agreed signal.
What if they say no?
Statistically rare on a sunset-cruise proposal in Marbella but it happens. The skipper handles it gracefully — slow cruise back, music down, no pressure. We've been there. The €749 is non-refundable but we don't charge for the second bottle.
Can we do the proposal mid-day instead of sunset?
Yes — though sunset is dramatically better for the photo. Mid-day with the snorkel stop also works ("I have a question to ask you between dips"). Pick what fits the partner.
Can we have family on a second boat watching?
Yes — we synchronise two boats anchoring 100 m apart. The "surprise family appearance" version. Quote separately.
